COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Surfscape Contemporary Dance Theatre, Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 company committed to bringing the art of modern dance to the Volusia County audience.

-We offer lecture demonstrations to promote arts education in local schools as well as invite local students to attend matinee performances at reduced ticket prices and at no charge.

-Tickets for all performances are offered to area youth, seniors, and designated populations at reduced rates and children 3 and under attend performances for free.

-Community dancers, musicians, and artists from area schools and colleges have opportunities to both study and perform with the company and area theater students gain valuable experience helping backstage at each of our performances.  In addition, theater and technical students are involved in creating our props and sets.

-As a community theatre, we utilize and liaison with local artists and merchants for musical accompaniment, set designs, costumes, catering, marketing and other support.

-We invite outside dancers, companies and choreographers to visit as our guest, in order to provide the community with additional exposure to dance media.

We are proud to serve Volusia County as

strong and vibrant dance resource.

For our upcoming production, GREEN, 1,100 Volusia County School students will be invited to attend special showings of the performance. These will include a question and answer session with the SCDT company artists as well as a brief and engaging presentation on beach protection by the Marine Discovery Center.  Reusable bags filled with enviromentally sound and energy efficient products and resources will be distributed to all of the attendees. Area youth from 13 schools (K-12) and additional arts/science organizations will display "green" themed art and writing projects in the lobby as an accompaniment to the performance. All programs will be printed on recycled paper and re-used for each showing and all costumes will be created out of the company's current stock of custumes, fabric, and supplies.  SCDT is excited to celebrate the green movement and will base the choreography and momemtum of the performance on nature, conservancy, and of course the color green.

The company dancers and directors will participate in the Volusia County Coastal Clean-Up on Saturday, September 20th and we invite all of our friends to join us in this effort.  We are proud to provide artistic exposure and educational opportunities for our community youth.  We are also proud to help protect our Earth.
